Description
It is January 1888 in Poland, and Ania's world is thrown into chaos when she discovers her mother dead in their home. Ania and her twin brother try to move through their pain while continuing to manage their home and business. Their Russian ruled government offers no help to their situation when they begin terrorising their city. The twins find refuge with their Jewish friends, however after fighting for their lives, they realise that it is no longer safe in their beloved Poland.
Ania, her brother and their friends migrate to England where all hope is restored to them. There Ania finds relatives with which to live. Little does she know, they were placed within the East End of London. The street was plagued by crime, everywhere Ania looked, they were tormented with the new world around them. However, it was not the activity in the darkness which hurt her most, it was the home she had been placed into.
Separated from her Jewish friends, Ania is forced to find her way in this new city. The East End soon became victim to the Whitechapel murderer, but it was not his crimes which scared Ania the most. For within the walls of her new home, she suffered at her family’s hands. The more she tried to escape, the more she was punished, and haunted by the world around her.
She could never change what she had seen, nor could she save the ones she loved most. While fearing her lover was indeed Jack the Ripper, and while worried for the lives of others, Ania's own life hung in the balance.
